A chance to win a free geranium will be one of the highlights of the upcoming Plants and Treasures Sale to be held by the Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club.
There will be lots and lots of plants, plus garden tools and garden-related publications available at Thursday’s show.
And to top it off there will be decor, puzzles, canning jars and artistic repurposed items.
“There should be something for everybody,” said garden club member Barb Gollob.
The show will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lions Den in Armstrong Park on Exposition Drive.
Club members request that there be no “early birds” who come before the show opens at 10 a.m.
The annual show is known for the wide variety of plants available to buy, such as annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables. Most of the perennials, which are plants like hostas that come up year after year, come from the gardens of club members, which means they are acclimated to Iowa’s climate and soil.
New this year will be the drawings for free geraniums. Starting at 10:30 a.m. and continuing to 3:30 p.m., a drawing will be held for a free geranium every half hour. People attending the show can write their name on a slip of paper and put it in the designated bag. Club members will be drawing names of winners from the bag throughout the day. People must be present to win.
There will also be a raffle for a colorful hanging basket.
