A teenage girl accused of aiding and abetting during a shooting in downtown Fort Dodge last week is asking for her case to be waived to Juvenile Court for adjudication.
Haydin Ranee Mapel, 16, was arrested and charged on May 4 with aiding and abetting first-degree murder, a Class A felony; and aiding and abetting attempted murder, a Class B felony. Her charges stem from a May 2 shooting in the 100 block of North 10th Street that left one man dead and another injured.
Hours following the shooting, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for 17-year-old Davonquae Jyshon Pettigrew was issued. A charge of attempted murder was later added. Pettigrew remains at large.
On Wednesday, an attorney for Mapel filed a motion for reverse waiver to Juvenile Court jurisdiction. In the motion, attorney Judd Parker noted that there is "good cause" to waive the case to Juvenile Court because the defendant is 16, does not have a significant criminal or delinquent history and is able to be rehabilitated prior to turning 18.
According to the defense's motion, the state is alleging that Mapel drove a vehicle "containing a passenger that fired shots in response to shots being fired at the vehicle, including striking the driver's door" where Mapel was sitting.
A hearing has not yet been scheduled to address the motion in Webster County District Court.
