Teen arrested for January shooting

A Fort Dodge teen has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a shots fired incident that happened on Jan. 6.

According to court records, 17-year-old Ruben Gene Robledo is charged with reckless use of a firearm resulting in serious injury, going armed with intent, and minor armed with a dangerous weapon.

A press release issued by the Fort Dodge Police Department back in January said that shots fired were reported in the area of the 1800 block of Fourth Avenue South, and when officers arrived, they located a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the abdominal area. They reported that the injury was not believed to be life-threatening.

In a criminal complaint for the charge of reckless use of a firearm resulting in serious injury, a Class C felony, investigators say there was surveillance footage showing Robledo and two associates and that the defendant was holding a firearm and fired a series of shots.

“Two firearms [were] recovered at the location where law enforcement rendered aid to the defendant who was struck by a bullet during this incident causing serious bodily injury,” the criminal complaint says. It also identifies the location of the incident as the 1800 block of Third Avenue South.

Going armed with intent is a Class D felony and minor armed with a dangerous weapon is a serious misdemeanor. A warrant for Robledo’s arrest was issued on May 9 and he was arrested on Wednesday.

Robledo is being held in custody on a $22,000 cash bond.
