FD man arrested for theft of lottery tickets

A Fort Dodge man is accused of swiping a book of scratch-off lottery tickets from one Fort Dodge convenience store and cashing them in at another.

According to court filings, Charles Andrew Gray, 40, has been arrested and charged with two counts of theft of a lottery ticket, Class D felonies.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Feb. 18, Gray allegedly walked up to the front counter at Kwik Star, 201 N. 15th St., and took a book of “Xtreme Winnings” scratch-off lottery tickets while the clerk was busy. The book contained 30 $10 games valued at a total of $300.

Less than two hours later, around 3:30 a.m., Gray allegedly took the stolen tickets to Casey’s General Store, 3327 Fifth Ave. S., to cash in the winning tickets, collecting $120. The criminal complaint said he used those winnings to purchase more lottery tickets.

Gray had his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Thursday. He was released on his own recognizance and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 12.
