FD man charged after threatening county attorney’s office

A Fort Dodge man has been charged with making a threat of terrorism against the Webster County Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents, Jeffery Nathaniel Gayha Goebel, 37, has made several violent threats against the Webster County Attorney’s Office on his personal Facebook account.

Goebel was arrested Oct. 13 following an incident at the Webster County Attorney’s Office, 723 First Ave. S., in which he allegedly became belligerent and refused to leave the building. When law enforcement officers arrived to remove him from the premises, Goebel aggressively resisted and started fighting. At least three officers were injured in the scuffle.

As a result of the Oct. 13 incident, Goebel was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury, one count of interference with official acts causing bodily injury, disorderly conduct and trespassing. The case was transferred to the Humboldt County Attorney for prosecution.

On Tuesday, the Webster County Attorney’s Office provided several screenshots of threatening Facebook posts to the Fort Dodge Police Department. According to the court documents, the Facebook posts came from Goebel’s account and he wrote that the Humboldt County Attorney should drop the charges against him and “indicates he is ‘locked and loaded.’ The posts also indicate he may die as a result of ‘exterminating’ members of the Webster County Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement officers.”

As a result of the threatening social media posts, Goebel has been charged with one count of threat of terrorism, a Class D felony.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3. Goebel is being held in the Webster County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

The trial for the October 2022 charges is set for Feb. 21.
