Report of man stuck in auger ends in fatality

First responders converge on Hamilton County maintenance shed site in Jewell, but are unable to save the victim

JEWELL — A man who was reportedly stuck in an auger at a Hamilton County maintenance shed in Jewell did not survive, an official confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

The victim has not been identified.

The incident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the maintenance shed site at 625 West St., Jewell, which is on the far western edge of that southern Hamilton County town.

Duane Hendrickson, the chief of Jewell Fire and Rescue, confirmed the fatality.

Two minutes after the call was first dispatched, first responders requested an ambulance tier with Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.

Then an air ambulance was requested.

But moments later, the air ambulance was canceled.

No other information was released before press time.
