Mason declares council candidacy

Wayne Mason has decided that with regard to his city, Fort Dodge, it is time for him to stop talking and start doing.

That, he said, is why he decided to run for an at-large seat on the City Council during the upcoming special election cycle.

“I just figured it was time to get off the sidelines and get in the game,” he said.

“I’m tired of talking, it’s time to put my money where my mouth is,” he said.

Mason said that if he is elected, his top priority will be making sure the taxpayers “get the best bang for their buck.”

The candidate, who lives at 2451 N. 32nd St., does outside sales of building materials for Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber Co. in Webster City.

He was an assistant football coach at Fort Dodge Senior High School from 1988 to 2001. For part of that time he was an assistant coach for the sophomores. Later, he was the varsity offensive line and defensive line coach.

Mason was born in Guam while his father was in the U.S. military there, but he has lived in Fort Dodge since 1968. He is a graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High School.

He and his wife, Shelly, have three sons and nine grandchildren.
