FD council advances rate increases
One more approval needed to be effective
The monthly prices that Fort Dodge residents will pay for water, sanitary sewer service and solid waste collection would go up beginning Jan. 1 under a series of rate hikes advanced by the City Council Monday.
The council approved the second reading of the rate increases with no discussion. Councilman Kim Alstott was absent from the otherwise unanimous votes.
The increases must be approved once more to go into effect.
Water rate
Typical households that use 4,500 gallons of water a month will see an 8 percent increase in their water bill.
That amounts to $2.82 per month.
Smaller households that use up to 2,000 gallons of water a month will see their monthly bills go up by $1.72.
All water customers will pay a new $5 per month flat fee, called the water service initiative. The money generated by that fee will be used only to pay for repairing or replacing water mains.
Sewer rates
Under the increase advanced Monday, the average household’s monthly sewer bill would rise to $25.06.
The minimum monthly bill would rise to $19.43.
Solid waste collection
The monthly fee for having trash and recycling materials picked up has been $14.50 since 2010. An increase of $1.75 a month is in the works. That increase would raise the monthly bill to $16.25.
