Criminal complaint reveals more information on newborn murder

The criminal complaint filed with the charges against Fort Dodge residents Brandon Thoma and Taylor Blaha reveals that their newborn they are accused of murdering was born alive on Nov. 16.

According to the complaint, Blaha gave birth to the infant, a girl, inside the bathroom of the apartment she shared with Thoma at 927 Central Ave. in Fort Dodge. Blaha told Webster County Sheriff’s Office Detective Amy Stringer that she and Thoma “had no intentions of keeping the baby and planned to allow Blaha’s sister to adopt the baby.” However, a short time later, Blaha and Thoma allegedly together drowned the newborn in the bathtub.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 17, Thoma allegedly left the apartment building with the baby’s body inside a backpack to dispose of the remains.

According to the criminal complaint, the couple has a two-year-old child together.

Blaha and Thoma are both charged with first-degree murder. Thoma also has a charge of abuse of a corpse. Their initial appearances in Webster County Magistrate Court is scheduled for this morning.
