Callender man killed in farm accident

CALLENDER — A Callender man died Wednesday afternoon in a farm accident, according to Webster County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derek Christie.

The accident was reported at about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday in the 2900 block of Carter Avenue at a farm owned by Michael and Tara Erritt. Christie said the victim was running a skid-loader when the skid-loader had a “functional problem” and he essentially became “pinched” within the machinery.

On Thursday, Decker Truck Line Inc. shared a social media post stating “Yesterday we learned that Michael Erritt, our former VP of Operations, passed away at his home of a tragic accident.” The Messenger also received a pending obituary notice for Michael Erritt.

“Michael was loved by all and will be greatly missed by family and friends,” the post from Decker reads.

In addition to the WCSO, the Iowa State Patrol, Callender and Gowrie fire departments, Southwest Webster Emergency Medical Service and the Webster County Medical Examiner responded to the accident.
