Badger man charged with trafficking drugs, guns

BADGER — A Badger man is facing several felony drug charges after a traffic stop and later search of his home on Saturday.

According to a criminal complaint, Webster County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Chad Brown, 39, around 1 a.m. on Saturday. While citing the driver for not having a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance, deputies requested a K-9 backup from the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Brown admitted to officers that he was in possession of illegal contraband and a pat-down found two plastic bags of suspected drugs — one of cocaine and one of methamphetamine.

Officers also found two handguns in Brown’s vehicle, including one that was found to be stolen out of Humboldt County.

A search warrant was also executed on Brown’s home in Badger by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.

Items located during the search warrant include a functioning digital scale with methamphetamine residue on it, a second functioning digital scale, a plastic bag of meth, a tray of meth and “numerous plastic baggies consistent with that of drug packaging.” Law enforcement also found a large sum of cash in a safe in the home.

Brown has been charged with one controlled substance violation, a Class B felony; two counts of control of a firearm by a felon, Class D felonies one count of trafficking in stolen weapons, a Class D felony; one count of possession of a controlled substance, third offense, a class D felony; and one count of possession of a controlled substance, second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Brown had his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court on Saturday morning. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 22.
