3 killed Tuesday in Wright County crash

Victims’ names not released

CLARION — Three people were killed when a semi trailer slammed into a car on a rural Wright County road Monday morning.

All three who died were in the car, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Their names have not been released, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

The crash happened at 7:03 a.m. on Wright County road R33, about a half mile south of 160th Street.

Troopers reported that Braxton Murphy, 20, of Eldora, was driving a 2020 Mack semi trailer northbound when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and hit a 2007 BMW 525 passenger car.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that the three occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Murphy appeared to be uninjured, according to troopers.

Wright County sheriff’s deputies, Iowa Department of Transportation motor vehicle enforcement officers, Clarion firefighters, Clarion Emergency Medical Service, Wright County Emergency Management and the Wright County medical examiner responded to the scene along with the State Patrol.
