Death investigation continues in Fort Dodge

Two found dead in apartment

An investigation continues into the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a Fort Dodge apartment Saturday morning.

The bodies will be taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for autopsies to determine the cause of death, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

The names of the individuals are not being released yet, pending the notification of their families, police reported.

At 8:59 a.m. Saturday, police and firefighters were dispatched to 226 N. 13th St. after someone reported finding two unresponsive people there. The unresponsive people were determined to be dead.

The initial investigation into the deaths extended into the early afternoon hours Saturday. The 200 block of North 13th Street was closed to traffic and yellow police line tape cordoned off the immediate area of the building where the bodies were found. Crowds of up to 50 people were gathered in the area.

The building where the bodies were found is a two-story house divided into two apartments. It is owned by the MJ and NS Bianchi Trust and Ted Beran, according to online records of the Webster County Assessor’s Office.

Fort Dodge police, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, Iowa State Patrol troopers and representatives of the Webster County Attorney’s Office and Webster County Medical Examiner’s Office were on scene.
