Taking center stage with Addie Schulte

Love for the stage; St. Edmond’s Schulte enjoys every thing about performing

From a young age, Addie Schulte knew performing was going to be something she could gravitate to.

Schulte, a senior at St. Edmond High School, has continued fulfilling her dream while taking part in numerous activities as a Gael. That includes everything from numerous choirs, musicals, small group speech, cheerleading and more.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve loved to perform,” Schulte said. “I was involved in Junior Stage Door musicals for four years and I loved to perform in addition to dancing, singing and acting.

“I was involved in the McSweeny’s School of Performing Art for five years as part of the children’s chorus and private lessons. My desire to perform continued through middle school when I played Violet in the St. Edmond high school production of ‘State Fair.’

“All throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to the music and performance programs.”

Schulte also has watched as one of her idols, Fort Dodge native Ben Ahlers, has found himself cast in movies and on television shows after getting his start right here.

“I’ve looked up to Ben ever since he played the role of Scarecrow in a production of ‘Wizard of Oz’ as an eighth grader,” Schulte said. “It’s been inspiring watching his career flourish through the years.”

Schulte has stayed busy while performing as part of the Gaelic choir, concert choir, chamber choir, show choir and all-Iowa show choir. She is the Gaelic choir and concert choir president, along with the student body secretary.

But that is far from it, as Schulte is also involved in the musical, showcase, small group speech, football, competing and basketball cheerleading, cross country, is a student ambassador and part of Play Like a Champion.

“I hope to be remembered by future St. Edmond performers as a strong leader and a positive influence,” she said. “I believe that leadership is one of my biggest assets to the St. Edmond programs. I also believe that my positive energy is what sets me apart from others.

“It’s important to me to be involved in so much at St. Edmond because as a smaller school, we need everyone to step up and get involved in order to have successful programs. Being involved has given me so many new friendships and it’s a great way to make lots of unforgettable memories.”

Schulte calls competing at the Emmetsburg Extravaganza in the finals of the show choir event “my favorite performance memory.”

After graduating, Schulte plans to attend a school to study kinesiology with a pre-physical therapy emphasis.
