Driver hurt when car, train collide

Webster County Sheriff's Deputies assess a vehicle that had just been struck and dragged by a train in rural Webster County near Samson Avenue and 160th Street on Thursday evening. The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was southbound on Samson Avenue when he failed to yield to the westbound train. The train struck the vehicle and dragged it for several hundred yards before it could stop. The driver of the vehicle was alert and talking when first responders arrived and was transported by Vincent ambulance in stable condition.

Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Geoff Miller walks around a car that was crushed by a Union Pacific Railroad freight train in rural Webster County near Samson Avenue and 160th Street. The driver of the vehicle, whose name has not been released, was injured, but he was transported by Vincent ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center, in stable condition.
