Peterson appeals sex abuse conviction
A Duncombe man who was sentenced to 82 years in prison last month is appealing his convictions of sexual abuse and incest.
Paul Eran Peterson, 41, was convicted in a bench trial in May of six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, Class C forcible felonies; four counts of incest, Class D felonies; and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.
On July 19, Webster County District Court Judge John Flynn sentenced Peterson to up to 82 years in prison for his crimes.
“One of the major concerns is to protect the community, and a lengthy prison sentence is how that occurs,” Flynn said during sentencing. “I also need to send a message to the community that similar conduct cannot be tolerated and will not be tolerated.”
On Tuesday, Peterson filed a notice of appeal.
Peterson is still awaiting trial for an unrelated sexual abuse case. That trial has not yet been scheduled.
