Taking center stage with Emillian Garcia

Lighting up the stage; Garcia brings joy and enthusiasm to St. Edmond

Emillian Garcia has one hope for those who watched him perform for St. Edmond Catholic Schools.

“I want to be remembered as the one who brought joy and enthusiasm when I came onto the stage,” Garcia said. “Bringing enthusiasm and energy to every performance makes the entire thing feel even more special.”

A senior, Garcia was involved in speech, musical and choir, along with football, track and basketball as the team manager.

“Life can seem very slow with nothing going on when you don’t involve yourself,” he said. “I have had so much fun doing all these different activities and spending time with all my friends.

“It’s truly fun and you make so many memories and relationships doing it.”

For Garcia, there isn’t just one moment that he will cherish and remember down the road.

“During musicals, getting up on stage and just practicing and getting ready for the big performance,” he said. “I was able to bring an energy that was just something so different to me, but so fun at the same time.”

Having all those opportunities presented to him allowed Garcia to become the person he is today.

“I love the ability to just express myself on so many different levels while using a character to do it,” he said. “It’s an experience and an adrenaline rush doing something like that and it makes me want to keep doing it.”

He credits teacher Ben Wegner with inspiring him and “helping me learn anything I was struggling with.”

Garcia plans on attending Iowa Central before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa to get his master’s degree in secondary education. He was recently awarded the Ava and Jackson Memorial Scholarship from St. Edmond.
