One killed when car crashes into home

Kamrar man dies in accident east of Webster City

WEBSTER CITY — The holiday weekend got off to a tragic start when a Kamrar man’s car plowed into Jim and Patty Walker’s house on old Highway 20 east of Webster City.

Jory Lanken, 32, apparently ran through the stop sign at the intersection of old 20 — 220th Street — and Neely Avenue, went through the ditch, and then flew airborne, crashing through the front window of the large frame farmhouse at 2281 220th St., according to information from the Iowa State Patrol.

The northbound 2006 Pontiac G6 came to rest in the living room of the home. Lanken was trapped in the car and did not survive.

The Walkers were in Clear Lake at the time of the accident, which State Patrol reports as sometime early Saturday morning.

“It went clear through the first living room,” Patty Walker said Monday.

The car went straight into the house, she said, which sits at the north side of the road at a T-intersection. It also took out a basement wall.

Despite the damage, it remains structurally habitable, she said.

Friends and family helped clear up debris immediately.

“It’s just stuff,” Patty Walker said, after expressing sorrow for Lanken and his family.

The State Patrol reported that Lanken wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when he crashed into the house.

Excessive speed is also believed to be a factor in the crash, ISP said.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and Webster City police and fire departments were on scene assisting the state patrol.

The accident remains under investigation.
