FDPD sergeant resigns

A Fort Dodge Police Department sergeant who was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol last month has resigned.

Former Sgt. Bryce Presswood, 31, was placed on paid administrative leave on June 6 following his involvement in a June 5 hit-and-run. The following day, he was charged with one count of OWI-first offense, a serious misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident and driving with an open container.

According to FDPD Capt. Dennis Quinn, public information officer, Presswood resigned from the department on June 28.

Presswood had been with the Fort Dodge department since March 2016. From 2018 until February 2022, he served as the school resource officer at Fort Dodge Senior High School. In February, he was promoted to sergeant and placed back on patrol.

A special prosecutor from the Story County Attorney’s Office was appointed to handle Presswood’s OWI case. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
