Calhoun County first responders search for Twin Lakes drowning victim

TWIN LAKES — While neighbors were setting off fireworks to celebrate America’s Independence Day Monday night, it was anything but a celebration on the beach at Treman Park on North Twin Lake.

According to Calhoun County Sheriff Pat Riley, a 25-year-old Hispanic male was swimming in the beach area when he slipped under the water and never resurfaced. The call came into local first responders around 5:15 p.m. and the search began immediately.

Rockwell City Fire Rescue, Twin Lakes Rescue and Manson Fire Rescue all initially responded, along with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

The dive team from Buena Vista County’s Emergency Management was dispatched to assist in the search of the water. The search continued until about 9:30 p.m. when it was suspended due to nightfall.

Riley said the search will be reevaluated Tuesday morning and the beach and Treman Park will remain closed.
