Webster Co. supervisors approve precinct merger

The Douglas Township voting precinct, located just to the west of Fort Dodge, will now merge with Fort Dodge Precinct No. 4.

The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with the city of Fort Dodge to combine the precincts due to 2020 Census redistricting on Tuesday.

The supervisors also voted to repeal the ordinance passed earlier this year establishing the updated county supervisor districts and election precincts in the county. The supervisors then approved a new ordinance establishing new district and precinct maps.

According to Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner, the repealing of the first ordinance and approval of the new maps was necessary because the Legislative Services Agency rejected the county’s redistricting plan. She said the county’s redistricting maps did not align with the state’s redistricting map for state senate and congressional districts, so they needed to redraw parts of it so that there aren’t any townships that cross over two districts.

Pliner said despite the need for new maps, no major changes were made.
