More work set for FD Municipal Building

The ongoing renovation of the Fort Dodge Municipal Building will continue.

The City Council on Monday hired Jensen Builders Ltd., of Fort Dodge, to perform the next phase of the work. The company will be paid $915,000.

The work involves renovating the east end of the building’s second floor. It will involve repositioning offices and meeting rooms and updating the mechanical, electrical and data systems. The renovations were designed by Allers Associates Architects, of Fort Dodge.

Woodruff Construction, of Fort Dodge, submitted the only other bid for the work or $1,004,287.

The Municipal Building at 819 First Ave. S. was built in 1914. It is being renovated in stages in a process that began in 2008.

In other business, the council approved a lease for the spot in the 2400 block of Fifth Avenue South where Sunshine Laundry once stood. The lease is with Nestle Purina PetCare, which has a cat food plant immediately to the west of the former laundromat site.

The lease is for five years, with annual rent of $44,000. It can be renewed seven more times for a total of 10 years in each term.

Because of contamination from dry cleaning chemicals, the site can only be used for parking. The company plans to position cranes and other machinery there as needed.

Starting at $4.94/week.
