Meadow Balkenende
Five graduating high school seniors from the Fort Dodge area have been awarded scholarships by The Messenger to attend Iowa Central Community College.
”The Messenger and its employees are proud of our ongoing relationship with Iowa Central Community College,” said Terry Christensen, the newspaper’s publisher. ”The annual scholarship program is such a wonderful opportunity to reward students in our region.”
Here is an introduction to the scholarship winners.
Meadow Balkenende
The daughter of Richard Balkenende and Brooke Bickford, she will graduate from Fort Dodge Senior High School.

Jaren Christy
Her high school activities and honors include:
• Volleyball
• Tennis
• Cross country
• Orchestra

Connor Darr
• DECA
• 4-H International Culture Club
• Silver Cord
• National Honor Society
• Freshman ambassador

Hayden Mayer
She works at Jimmy John’s in Fort Dodge.
Jaren T. Christy
The son of Thomas and Stacey Christy, he will graduate from Fort Dodge Senior High School. He is ranked No. 1 in the class of 262 graduates.
His high school activities and honors include:
• Baseball, one year

Kolby Wilson
• Cross country for four years
• Captain of the boys cross country team
• National Honor Society
• Academic letter winner for four years
Outside of school, he is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church Youth Group. He has worked at Walmart.
Connor Darr
The son of Brian and Leanne Darr, he will graduate from Manson Northwest Webster High School.
His high school activities and honors include:
• Football
• FFA
• Electrathon
Outside of his school, his activities include:
• Manson Crater 4-H Club
• Working to open the town grocery store
• Mowing and snow removal at St. Paul Lutheran Church
• FFA Feed the Farmers
• Usher at Iowa State Fair
He is the owner of Darr Lawn Service and has worked at Moline Brothers Turkey Farm. He is a carrier for The Messenger.
Hayden Mayer
The son of Anthony and Kathy Mayer, he will graduate from St. Edmond High School.
His high school activities and honors include:
• Cross country, four years
• Captain of the boys cross country term
• Basketball, four years
• Captain of the basketball team
• Track, four years
• Service letter
• HOBY nominee
• Honor Society
• Triple E Award
• Academic letter
• Stage building crew for musical
• Volunteer with Beacon of Hope
• Volunteer with Lord’s Cupboard
He has worked for CID and Cory Anderson Tile by Design.
Kolby Wilson
The son of Elizabeth Klinger, he will graduate from Fort Dodge Senior High School.
His high school activities and honors include:
• Photography Club
• DECA
• Soccer, four years
• Silver Cord
• National Honor Society
• Dodger Senate
• 4-H International Culture Club
• Cross country, two years
• Co-captain of boys cross country team
• Environmental Awareness Club
He works at both Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Gaga & Hoo.
