Taking center stage with Rylie Reed

Challenge accepted; Reed enjoys learning and creating music

Rylie Reed enjoys the challenge of learning something new.

The idea of figuring something out and becoming great at it, is what got the Fort Dodge High School senior involved in the fine arts.

“I started performing when I realized I liked the challenge of learning an instrument,” Reed said.

Reed, who has been a drum major for the Fort Dodge Senior High All-American Dodger marching band, loves being involved in music.

“I love creating music with other people and the friends you make,” Reed said. “It’s much harder for me to direct the band than sing because our performance relies more on me when I conduct than when I sing in choir.”

Reed, who started performing in fifth grade, is involved in the marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, A Capella choir and spring musicals, as well as National Honor Society.

Throughout her career as a Dodger, Reed has been involved in many performances.

“I have been involved in several plays and musicals throughout the years,” Reed said. “I was involved in musicals in middle school and early high school as well as the high school cabaret in 2021.

“I’ve also been involved in our high school jazz band and wind ensemble. I’ve also performed solos, duets, trios and small ensembles at contests.”

Reed has enjoyed her time at Fort Dodge Senior High and has learned a lot along the way.

“Some of my biggest influences have been all of the educators,” Reed said. “They’ve led me to the next chapter towards my future.”

Upon graduation Reed plans to attend Iowa State University in Ames to major in biology before attending a medical school.
