FD school board OKs summer projects

Dodger Stadium to get new scoreboard, PA system

Dodger Stadium will be getting a new scoreboard and sound system this summer.

On Monday, the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education approved the plans for a new LED scoreboard for Dodger Stadium, including a new PA system, allowing for the project to go out to bid.

ISP of Mankato, the architect for the project, estimates the project to cost just over $450,000, said Ryan Utley, director of buildings and grounds for the district. The cost of the project will be paid for using the physical plant and equipment levy fund.

A public hearing for the project will be during the June 13 school board meeting. The project is scheduled to begin June 20 and be completed by Aug. 8.

The board also approved the plans for a remodel of a computer lab at Fort Dodge Middle School. The computer lab will be used as a family consumer science classroom and have a series of kitchenettes constructed. Allers Associates Architects of Fort Dodge is the architect of the project. The remodel project is projected to cost $222,670 and will also be paid for using the PPEL fund, Utley said.

The classroom remodel will start around June 20 and be complete by Sept. 15.

Students at Duncombe Elementary School will have increased access to mental health services after the School Board approved the purchase of Classroom Connect services to support student mental health needs at Duncombe.

“All the schools within our district have the support of at least one community counselor or therapist, and although we have tried to enlist this for Duncombe, there just aren’t enough resources in our community to fulfill this need,” Director of Elementary Services Steph Anderson wrote to the board. “Classroom Connect coordinates telehealth services for students and families while organizing all mental health services through an online system, Classroom Connect 360.”

The services will cost $23,750 and will be paid for out of the district’s at-risk funds.
