WEBSTER CITY — Kelly Beightol, a 58-year-old Webster City woman, was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for attempting to distribute methamphetamine.

She was arrested on Sept. 6, 2021, in Hardin County when a traffic stop revealed she was in possession of roughly 53 grams of pure methamphetamine and a half pound of marijuana, according to the United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Iowa.

She also had with her drug packaging, a digital scale, and nearly $1,700 in cash.

Beightol pleaded guilty on Dec. 2, 2021, to possession of meth with intent to distribute. She told the court she intended to distribute the meth to others.

Possession with intent to deliver is a Class D felony.

This is not the first conviction for Beightol.

The 2015 conviction was in Webster County, according to Iowa Courts Online.

In 2008 in Webster County, she was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was sentenced to two years in prison.

In 1990, Beightol pleaded guilty in Webster County to second-degree arson, a Class C felony, and a reduced charge of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, plea bargained down from a charge of attempted murder, a Class B felony.

Beightol is in the custody of the United States marshal until she is transported to a federal prison.

Following prison, she must serve a four-year term of supervised release.

There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S.
