Taking center stage with Bo Tracy

Born to perform; Dodger senior enjoying time in the arts

Being on stage is a natural feel for Bo Tracy.

When the Fort Dodge Senior High School senior gets a chance to perform, it’s an act that is a perfect fit.

“When I am singing or performing I feel like I can just be me and do what I enjoy every day,” Tracy said. “That’s what’s great about it.”

Tracy has been in around 10 shows in his lifetime and this fall had a role in FDSH’s “While the Lights Were Out” as Tom Grogans.

“The fall play is always a fun time,” Tracy said. “I did the fall play every single year of high school and made a lot of friends and memories through the years. Not only that, but I grew as an actor, being able to play different roles that require different styles of acting.

“It was always a good experience.”

Currently, Tracy is preparing for FDSH’s musical “Footloose” as Travis.

“This year with the musical, I just hope to have a good time with friends,”‘ Tracy said. “With the pandemic we haven’t had a musical since I was a freshman, and that musical was one of the highlights of my high school career.

“So I am just happy to be back on the stage in the middle school and give it our all.”

The love for the stage came from Bo’s mom, Nicole.

“My mom kind of got me started on performing,” Tracy said. “I would watch shows with her and that’s when I wanted to start performing.”

Tracy has a full schedule, performing in choir, jazz band, concert band, marching band, speech, musicals and plays.

Along with his time in the arts, Tracy is also a member of the Fort Dodge basketball, soccer and cross country teams.

He is also a part of his Arise youth group at Grace Lutheran Church.

Tracy admits being on stage can be nerve wracking, but once the lights are on, the nerves vanish.

“It can be pretty nerve wracking,” Tracy said. “After a while it becomes natural, and you begin to enjoy every bit of it.”

Through his time at Fort Dodge, Tracy has been in contact with a number of people, who have had a big influence.

After graduation, Tracy plans on attending Iowa Central Community College.

“Being able to perform and sing every day would be a dream come true,” Tracy said. “I plan on going to Iowa Central and doing theater and choir.”
