Supervisors OK vehicle, equipment purchases

The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved a handful of vehicle and equipment purchases for county departments on Tuesday.

The first purchase was a 2022 Dodge Ram police truck for the Webster County Sheriff’s Department. The truck is being purchased from Shimkat Motor Co., of Fort Dodge, at the state bid price of $31,843 and is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.

The cost of the truck was reduced with the trade-ins of a 2013 Dodge Charger and a 2016 Ford Explorer.

This truck is one of three that were ordered back in September, but the other two were canceled, Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener said.

“Dodge shut down their fleet sales,” Fleener explained as to why the other two orders were canceled.

The vehicle is a budgeted purchase, the sheriff said.

The supervisors also approved the purchase of a new Kobelco excavator and a Felling tilt-bed trailer to haul it with from Mid-Country Machinery, of Fort Dodge, for the county secondary roads department.

The excavator will cost $215,000, while the trailer will be an additional $43,500.

Murphy Tractor submitted a $252,900 bid for the excavator, and Ziegler Cat submitted a $288,531 bid. Both companies are in Fort Dodge.

Murphy Tractor submitted a $44,500 bid for the trailer, with Ziegler Cat submitting a $53,910 bid.

The board also approved a $100,000 transfer from the Webster County Trail Fund to the county engineer’s budget for paving the shoulders along Nelson Avenue from U.S. Highway 20 to the Kalo Bridge. The paving project was part of the Webster County Hike and Bike Trail Master Plan.
