Kansas woman killed in Sac County crash

A Kansas woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash.

The crash was reported to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office on Monday at 10:22 a.m. The crash happened about a half mile south of 340th Street on Iowa Highway 39 South of Odebolt.

A 2000 BMW operated by 54-year-old Jan Gentry from Shawnee, Kansas, was southbound on Iowa Highway 39 when she lost control of her car on a slush covered roadway.

The Gentry vehicle struck a northbound 2012 Chevy Equinox operated by 19-year-old Clay Roberts of Dunlap.

Blowing snow had caused areas of slush to form on the road.

Gentry was pronounced dead at the scene. Roberts was transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital with what is described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. Sac County Sheriff’s Office, Odebolt Fire and Rescue, Sac County EMS and Sac County Medical Examiners all responded to the scene.
