Joel to leave Fort Dodge schools

Superintendent to take post in Nebraska

Fort Dodge Community School District Superintendent Derrick Joel will leave his post after just a year on the job to take a position in Nebraska.

He has been hired as assistant superintendent of the Norris School District, according to the Lincoln Journal-Star in Nebraska. Joel is to start his new position there on July 1.

His starting salary in Nebraska will be $150,000.

His Fort Dodge salary is $210,000.

Calls seeking comment from Joel and Stu Cochrane, president of the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education, were not returned Sunday.

Joel became the school superintendent in Fort Dodge on July 1, 2021. He replaced Jesse Ulrich, who became president of Iowa Central Community College.

Joel came to Fort Dodge from the Raymond Central School District in Nebraska, where he had been superintendent.

He told the Lincoln Journal-Star that Norris ”is a great school district and we look forward to not just being a part of the district, but a part of the community.”
