COVID booster shot clinics set

Individuals over the age of 50, and people age 12 and older with weakened immune systems will be able to receive a second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from the Webster County Health Department.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that people over the age of 50 and immunocompromised individuals ages 12 and older who received an initial Pfizer booster dose at least four months ago receive another shot.

The CDC also recommended that individuals over the age of 50 and immunocompromised individuals ages 18 and older who received an initial Moderna dose at least four months ago should also receive another shot of the vaccine.

The CDC also said adults who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

“We want to make sure that residents have the correct information, and also have the opportunity to receive the vaccination that they are eligible to receive,” said Webster County Health Department Director Kari Prescott.

Second dose clinics will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. April 15 at the Webster County Health Department, 723 First Ave. S., Fort Dodge. To register for an appointment, call 515-573-4107.

Prescott noted that additional clinics will be added weekly as needed.
