Construction projects on FD council agenda

Assistance for two construction projects is on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council tonight.

The council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., with an update on Main Street Fort Dodge.

The council’s regular business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

During that meeting, the council will take the first of several steps to provide tax increment financing to support two projects.

One of those projects is the construction of a new freezer building and receiving dock at Northern Lights Distributing, 2949 Eighth Ave. S. The plan calls for $60,000 of tax increment financing to pay for the construction of a 15-inch diameter storm sewer as part of the project.

The other project is the construction of a new Starbucks at 2940 Fifth Ave. S. The proposal calls for $80,000 worth of tax increment financing money to reimburse the developer for demolishing the old Pizza Hut restaurant that once stood on the site.

Tax increment financing occurs when increased property tax revenue from a designated area is set aside to be reinvested in that area.
