PATON — A Boone man was killed Friday morning when he was struck by an excavator at a salvage yard about eight miles southwest of Dayton.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Kevin Cummings, of Boone, was walking around and behind the excavator shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday at Pickett’s Salvage, 70 C Ave., outside of Paton.

The machine’s operator was turning and backing at the same time and did not see Cummings behind the machine, striking the man.

Cummings died at the scene from his injuries.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office said.
