Laufersweiler seeks reelection as Webster County recorder

Webster County Recorder Lindsay Laufersweiler will once again be on the ballot in Webster County in November.

Laufersweiler, a Democrat who was first elected as the county recorder in 2015, filed her papers to seek re-election for a third term in office on Tuesday.

“I pledge to you, the citizens of Webster County, to continue to grow my knowledge and experience and use it to provide you with professional, courteous and timely service,” Laufersweiler said.

Recently, under Laufersweiler’s leadership, the county brought in U.S. Imaging to digitize nearly half a million county records. The $300,000 project was paid for using American Rescue Plan Act money and no county tax dollars.

Laufersweiler is proud of the team mentality that fills her office and has incorporated weekly team huddles to improve lines of communication and create a more positive work environment. Since first taking office, she has also worked to modernize office technology to create more efficiency when assisting customers.

Laufersweiler is a member of the Electronic Services System Coordinating Committee, the governing board for the Iowa Land Records statewide system. She also serves on various boards and committees, including the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance Membership Committee, Iowa State Association of Counties Excellence in Action Selection Committee and Property Records Industry Association.

“I am very passionate about making a difference,” Laufersweiler said.

Laufersweiler is a Fort Dodge native and a 2008 graduate of St. Edmond High School. She has an associate’s degree from Iowa Central Community College, and a bachelor of science in organizational communications from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She and her husband, Tom, have three young children — Addison, Knox and Ellesyn.

The county recorder’s office maintains all official real estate documents. It is a licensing agent for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, issuing fishing and hunting licenses, and registering and titling boats, snowmobiles and off-road recreational vehicles. The recorder also serves as the county registrar of vital records and has the responsibility of issuing marriage licenses, registering birth, death and marriage certificates and issuing certified copies of vital records.
