2 teens killed in Humboldt County crash

DAKOTA CITY — Two north-central Iowa teens were killed on Saturday morning when the pickup truck they were in rolled several times, ejecting both passengers.

Gavin Maines, 17, of Woolstock, and Madison Fraker, 18, of Algona, were westbound on 230th Street near Nevada Avenue outside of Dakota City when Maines failed to navigate a right-hand curve, sending the Chevrolet pickup truck into the west ditch, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The accident happened around 6:19 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the crash report, neither Maines nor Fraker were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on scene by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Emergency Medical Services and Humboldt County Medical Examiner.
