‘This Song’s for You’
Humboldt Community Chorus to perform
HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Community Chorus, directed by Terry Nelson, will be presenting its annual variety show, “This Song’s For You,” on Feb. 4-6 at the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium at Humboldt High School.
Show times are 7 p.m. Feb. 4, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 5 and 2 p.m. Feb. 6.
Tickets are now on sale at V&S Variety, Humboldt Hy-Vee, from chorus members and online at humboldtchorus.com. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18.
Anne Hyink, chorus publicist, said the show title this year reflects the joy and gratitude they feel from being together again and being able to share the gift of music with the community. The selections include “Knock on Wood,” “Heart of Rock and Roll,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “If We All Sing One Song”.
A medley of Elton John songs including “Circle of Life,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Your Song,” “Crocodile Rock” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” is sure to be an audience favorite, said Hyink.
The always popular gospel and patriotic songs include “In That Great Gettin’ Up Mornin’,” “Psalm 23,” “How Great is Our God,” “We Are America,” and “America, the Spirit Lives On.”
“Various small groups will add light-hearted comedy numbers. There will even be a satire on COVID-19,” said Hyink. “Our 20-piece big band will accompany all of the chorus pieces as well as play 30 minutes before the show and during intermission.”
The chorus has been performing since the 1960s.
“Between the band and chorus we are all from surrounding communities, Humboldt, Bode, Manson, Emmetsburg, Algona, Rolfe, Pocahontas, etc.,” said Hyink. “We are super happy to be able to do the show this year after having to take last year off due to the pandemic. The show will be sure to make you laugh, cry and laugh some more.”
Hyink said if there are still tickets available, they may be purchased at the door but that is not guaranteed in case tickets have sold out. For more information about the upcoming show, visit the chorus’ Facebook page or call to order tickets at 515-379-1072.
