State Sen. Jesse Green moves to new district

Averts showdown with Sen. Kraayenbrink

State Sen. Jesse Green has moved, averting a potential election battle with fellow Republican state Sen. Tim Kraayenbrink.

Green, formerly of Harcourt and now of Boone, and Fort Dodge resident Kraayenbrink, were put together in the same district during last year’s reapportionment process.

Green announced his move during Saturday’s Eggs and Issues forum.

He said moving to Boone places him in what will be a new state Senate district with no other incumbent. The move will enable him to complete the four-year term he was elected to two years ago.

He had been living on a family farm near Harcourt that had been owned by his family for generations.

“It was a really tough choice to move,” he said.

He said he still actively farms, commuting from Boone to the family farm. The farm remains in the family with a nephew of Green now living there.

He said that he already represents 75 percent of the new Senate district.

Green currently represents Boone, Greene and Hamilton counties, southeast Webster County and northwest Story County.

His new district, which will be in effect for this year’s election, includes Boone, Greene and Guthrie counties, northwest Dallas County and a small portion of western Story County.

The reapportionment placed Green and Kraayenbrink in a new district that includes Calhoun, Pocahontas, Sac and Webster counties. Kraayenbrink has announced he is running for re-election in that district.

Kraayenbrink’s current district includes Calhoun, Humboldt and Pocahontas counties, plus most of Webster County.

Starting at $4.94/week.
