Otho, Lehigh departments douse cornfield fire

A member of the Otho Volunteer Fire Department sprays down a patch of a corn field that caught fire on Tuesday afternoon off of Nelson Avenue, just north of 280th Street. According to Otho Fire Chief Marty Smith, the farmer had been conducting a controlled burn on a portion of his land when the blaze spread to a neighboring cornfield. The Otho Fire Deparmtent and Lehigh Fire Department were called to put out the cornfield fire at approximately 1 p.m. Smith said only a couple of acres were burned and the fire never got within a quarter of a mile of the farmhouse and barns. No injuries were reported.
