Iowa Central offers Emergency Medical Responder class at Otho Fire Station

Iowa Central Community College is offering an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class, which focuses on patient assessment and patient care procedures at the Emergency Medical Responder level.

The class will take place from Nov. 16 to Jan. 11 at the Otho Fire Station on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“The class is a combined lecture/lab course which has been developed by the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” said Paul Arens, Iowa Central’s Emergency Medical Services coordinator.

Arens also said, “Students can expect to learn about entry-level patient assessment in areas of basic life support, cardiac arrest, trauma, and medical emergencies. This would be a great class for you if you are interested in the medical field, especially the emergency medical services field.”

Completion of this EMR class will make students eligible for National Registry of EMTs testing at the Emergency Medical Responder level. Students must be 17 years of age at the time of enrollment, be able to speak, write, and read English, and possess a valid driver’s license.
