FDPD investigating Sunday morning shooting
One person was airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital after police say he was shot in an early morning incident on Sunday.
According to a press release from the Fort Dodge Police Department, shots fired were reported in the area of the 10 block of North Seventh Street around 4:21 a.m. Sunday morning. When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male with gunshot wounds to the midsection. Officers began immediate medical treatment until Fort Dodge Fire Department medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.
The victim was later airlifted to Des Moines.
Through the investigation, officers learned that the shooting took place inside an apartment area located at 21 ½ N. Seventh St., and that the victim had fled the scene to where he was located in a nearby parking lot.
Officers were able to locate a firearm and witnesses and are continuing to follow upon leads.

The FDPD said information gathered thus far indicates that the incident was isolated to known individuals and was not a random act.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
