Asbestos project, nature center on FD City Council agenda

Meeting set for 5 p.m.

The Fort Dodge City Council will meet today in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

The meeting will start at 5 p.m. with a report from Main Street Fort Dodge.

At 5:30 p.m. there will be a workshop on removing asbestos from the former Greenleaf Health Care building at 1305 N. 22nd St.

City officials plan to apply for a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to pay for that work.

The council’s business meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

During that meeting the council will consider an agreement with Webster County which would allow the county to use its tax increment financing money to pay for a planned new nature center along the Des Moines River at the west end of Central Avenue.

The council will also consider hiring Allers Associates Architects, of Fort Dodge, to design the renovation of the east end of the Municipal Building’s second floor.

The company would be paid $86,000 plus expenses.
