Youth Council members sought for arts group

The Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association is currently accepting applications for its Youth Advisory Council. Fine Arts Association Executive Director Shelly Bottorff said the council “offers young leaders a voice in shaping the arts and culture in our community.”

The council will be comprised of up to 15 students ages 14 to 18 who have a passion for the arts and interest in civic action.

“Representatives from community-based organizations, arts organizations, school districts and private teaching studies are invited to nominate youth to serve on the Youth Advisory Council,” said Bottorff. “Youth may also nominate themselves, but must include a letter of recommendation that describes why they are a good candidate for this opportunity.”

Bottorff said the council gives students opportunities to participate in civic engagement, develop leadership skills, shape the role of youth in the community, network with peers and other young leaders, and engage in learning opportunities related to the arts.

Members are expected to actively attend monthly meetings and at least two community events, serve as an ambassador to increase youth attendance and participation in community events in a safe environment, and serve as a greeter or facilitator to engage community participants in the mission and values of the Fine Arts Association.

Orientation will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, and applications must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 22.

For more information or to nominate yourself or a student, contact Shelly Bottorff at 515-570-7807 or email fdfinearts@gmail.com.
