Jeans Day fundraiser supports D/SAOC

The Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center is inviting businesses and individuals in the area to wear blue jeans on Friday to help raise awareness and show support for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the D/SAOC Jeans Day is Friday.

“Employees are able to donate $5 to wear jeans for the day,” said Leah Bair, program development director at D/SAOC. “Typically, it’s a place that normally dresses up, so they donate $5 to be able to wear jeans for the day, and then the proceeds from that come back to us during the Domestic Violence Awareness Month.”

Bair said that most years, local funeral homes, banks, school districts and other businesses usually participate — and it has a huge impact on the program.

“All donations that we receive during that day go back into our general expenses so that we can continue providing free and confidential services to all of our clients,” she said.

She noted that some offices aren’t able to participate by wearing jeans because of certain uniform restrictions. For those groups, D/SAOC has denim-designed Jeans Day stickers for participants to wear to show their support.

Businesses, groups and individuals can reach out to Bair to participate or donate for Jeans Day at leahg@dsaoc.com.
