Fire ravages Lewright Meats

EAGLE GROVE — A Wednesday morning fire tore through Lewright Meats in the 100 block of North Iowa Avenue in Eagle Grove.

The fire was reported at 9:23 a.m. The Eagle Grove Fire Department was on scene for four hours and was assisted by the Goldfield Fire Department.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused extensive damage to the building and its contents.

According to Tom Peterson, Eagle Grove fire chief, the fire appears to have started in the area of the smoker.

Lewright Meats is a family-owned business started by H.L. Lewright Sr. in Eagle Grove in 1936. The business offers meat processing and sells various meat products, as well as operates a deli.
