Fareway to pull ads from print media

A Fort Dodge tradition decades in the making will come to an end this week as Fareway ends its regular insertion and advertising in The Messenger and Consumer Weekly.

Fareway, headquartered in Boone, informed the newspaper recently it will no longer publish its weekly specials in the local newspapers.

Officials with Fareway said it is a corporate decision affecting publications statewide.

Terry Christensen, publisher of The Messenger, said it’s a disappointing decision.

“It’s a heavy blow to our business to lose such a longtime and loyal customer,” Christensen said. “It will also be a big change for our readers who depend on the weekly ads.”

Christensen said he hopes Fareway will reconsider the decision in the future and he and his staff look forward to maintaining its relationship with Fareway’s local employees and management.

The Fareway advertising is scheduled for its last run today.

Readers with feedback about the decision are encouraged to call the Fort Dodge Fareway store at 515-576-0341 or the corporate office at 515-432-2623.
