Memories of 9/11 wanted

Messenger plans special publication

A sunny September morning 20 years ago turned into a day of terror and tragedy when four jetliners hijacked by terrorists crashed, killing more than 3,000 Americans.

Two of them hit the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing them to collapse.

A third hit the Pentagon near Washington, D.C.

A fourth jet crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after the passengers rushed the cockpit in an attempt to retake the plane.

The Messenger will produce a special publication to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Readers can contribute to the publication by writing and submitting their memories of that dark day.

Submissions can be sent to bshea@messengernews.net. They can also be submitted by sending a message to the newspaper’s Facebook page.

Submissions can be a maximum of 550 words. They must be received by 5 p.m. Sept. 3.
