Recent rains have caused a planned road closure along bustling Fifth Avenue South to be delayed until Monday, the city of Fort Dodge announced on Wednesday.

The Kenyon Road/Fifth Avenue South road closure scheduled to begin today has been postponed.

Beginning Monday, Kenyon Road/Fifth Avenue South will be closed to through traffic between South Eighth Street and South 12th Street for about one month, weather permitting.

The work that will close the street is part of a project that will drain storm water from the area of Second Avenue South and 12th Street and carry it to the Des Moines River. S.M. Hentges & Sons Inc., of Jordan, Minnesota, has a $1,369,194.45 contract for the job.

Detours will direct traffic to Second Avenue South and additional stop signs will be in place along the route.

Motorists can expect delays and are urged to use caution in and around the area. Local traffic will have access.

Starting at /week.
