Fifth Avenue South between Eighth and 12th streets will be closed beginning Monday morning for a storm sewer project. It will remain closed for about one month. As this map shows, traffic will be detoured to Second Avenue South. Additional stop signs will be in place along the route. Drivers can expect delays. The work that will close the street is part of a project that will drain storm water from the area of Second Avneue South and 12th Street and carry it to the Des Moines River. S.M. Hentges & Sons Inc., of Jordan, Minnesota, has a $1,369,194.45 contract for the job.
