FD police search for eluding suspect

The Fort Dodge Police Department is searching for a suspect who eluded officers after an attempted traffic stop on Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the department, officers conducted a traffic stop on a maroon Ford Fusion for having a headlight out in the 600 block of North 22nd Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. When the officers attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver sped off, fleeing westbound on Seventh Avenue North. The officers returned to their patrol vehicles and pursued the suspect for a short time before losing sight of the vehicle.

Another officer located the vehicle near 21st Avenue North and North 14th Court a few minutes later. As the officer approached the intersection, the Fort Fusion again began to elude police.

The pursuit continued for a short time through the Round Prairie neighborhood before the suspect’s vehicle became hung up on an embankment in the 600 block of Ninth Avenue North.

The driver then fled on foot and officers were unable to locate the driver after searching the area.

FDPD Capt. Ryan Gruenberg said at the time the suspect fled on foot, there were no other occupants in the vehicle, but added that there may have been passengers in the vehicle prior to that.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the FDPD did not have a clear description of the suspect. Gruenberg said officers did collect evidence from the abandoned vehicle that may assist in identifying the suspect.

The FDPD is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the FDPD at 515-573-1424, or the Webster County Law Enforcement Center at 515-573-2323.
