Flooding damage along Riverside Trail south of Fort Dodge will be repaired under a contract awarded Tuesday by the Webster County Board of Supervisors.

Peterson Contractors Inc. of Reinbeck, was hired to do the job at a cost of $1,813,297.50.

The contractor will be repairing flood damage dating from 2018, according to County Engineer Jamie Johll.

An embankment along Riverside Trail south of U.S. Highway 20 needs to be rebuilt because of that flooding damage. The embankment consists of clay on top of shale. Some of that material will be excavated out and replaced with big rocks called riprap. Riprap is commonly used to prevent or reduce erosion.

Other bidders for the job were Legacy Corp., of East Moline, Illinois ($1,998,248.65); Reilly Construction, Ossian ($1,904,708.50) and CJ Moyna & Sons, Elkader, ($1,901,990.50).

In another road-related matter, the board approved a new speed limit of 35 mph for 140th Street between National Avenue and the Des Moines River.

The speed limit there was previously 50 mph.
